Model
Our design studio, construction firm, and real estate workshop deliver architecturally rich work across residential, commercial, and cultural commissions. Like the great firms and production studios of the past, SPEEDBOAT brings comprehensive design and technical capabilities under one roof to deliver ambitious projects at scale.
We operate in different modes depending on each commission: providing design services, leading design with construction partners, or designing and building the work directly. Architects, interior specialists, landscape practitioners, and craftspeople collaborate with owners, designers, fabricators, and consultants.
Capabilities
Modes
SPEEDBOAT engages as designer, builder, or both depending on the commission. We serve owners and developers across the full range of delivery structures, offer general contracting in concert with allied architects and interior designers independent of any design role, and structure and deliver development engagements from inception through completion.

Commercial & Institutional
Commercial and institutional work spans cultural institutions, mixed-use developments, hospitality, workplace projects, and adaptive reuse of industrial buildings, with experience including museum work and gallery spaces. These commissions demand different considerations than residential: design ambition must align with programmatic complexity, financial performance, building code requirements, accessibility standards, and life safety systems. We collaborate with developers on feasibility studies, due diligence, and value engineering, and coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines throughout. Material rigor, spatial precision, and construction documentation that tradespeople can build from are the constant across every engagement.

Residential
Residential work spans estates, multigenerational compounds, large-scale developments, and ADU infill across Los Angeles and California, ranging from ground-up construction to adaptive reuse and historic rehabilitation. Every commission begins with how families actually live: the daily rhythms of cooking, gathering, solitude, and celebration that determine how rooms relate, how a garden connects to a kitchen, how a study earns its quiet. Material palettes draw from regional traditions, structural systems respond to topography, and light is choreographed across seasons. Each project is detailed to perform and age well, built to last and improve with time.

Process
Every project begins with conceptual studies that inform design, project controls, and construction execution. Site analysis establishes constraints and opportunities: zoning, topography, solar orientation, views, and existing conditions. Detailed studies and documentation drive the process from the outset, coordinated with structural, mechanical, and civil engineers throughout. Preconstruction services run alongside design: cost estimating, constructability review, bid solicitation, and value engineering are integrated rather than deferred. Construction documents produce the plans, sections, details, schedules, and specifications that tradespeople price and build from. Construction is treated as a collaborative endeavor between owner, designer, and builder, with site observation, shop drawing review, and direct communication through meetings, site visits, and regular reporting keeping all parties aligned from groundbreaking to completion.
