Description

SPEEDBOAT Kit Homes are designed and built around a simple premise: that standardization and customization are not opposites. Six SPEEDBOAT Studio typeforms — Block, Court, Split, Longhouse, Half-Stack, and Full-Stack — offer genuine variety while maintaining a coherent and tailored design language. Each home adapts to its owner's lifestyle and reflects their individual tastes, with flexibility and choice built into every stage of the process, from space planning through construction.

Homeowners choose their preferred delivery method from a range of construction system options, each designed to respond to current market conditions and price volatility. The modular organizing principle underlying each typeform accommodates prefabricated or conventional building methods equally, and allows for future additions without compromising the original composition.

The aesthetic is designed for the near future. Historical details are incorporated through a contemporary lens, resulting in an enduring character informed by scale, environment, site, materials, and context, and executed with meticulous attention to warmth, clarity, and quality. Performance is built in from the start, with eaveless framing, energy-efficient windows, and fire-hardened siding and roofing. Floor plans prioritize natural light, views, and airflow, while integrated millwork, extra-thick walls, and acoustic insulation ensure comfort and privacy throughout.

Kit Homes are built exclusively from natural, renewable, and recycled materials. Standard features include low-VOC finishes, natural plasters, and MERV 13 filtration, with flooring options in sustainably sourced hardwood, cork, linoleum, and eco-friendly fibers. Hemp insulation is available for enhanced thermal and acoustic performance. Each home is solar-ready with energy-efficient electric appliances, battery storage options, and water purification through reverse osmosis or carbon filtration. Site plans embrace rainwater harvesting, native and drought-tolerant plantings, and low-maintenance land strategies suited to the California climate.

SPEEDBOAT manages every detail from start to finish, or integrates into an existing team, or supports owner-builder delivery using open-source plans. The process begins with a thorough site study including soil analysis and surveys, proceeds through complete architectural and engineering design, permitting, and cost engineering, and moves into one to two months of site preparation covering earthwork, utilities, and foundation while modular components are fabricated off-site. Installation takes six to eight months. Optional maintenance packages are available for long-term support.
